Fire Safety

The Fire Safety and Shelter Department (FSSD) of the Singapore Civil Defence Force regulates
fire safety requirements in buildings. Before you can start any renovation or building works or
commence business operations, you must get clearance from FSSD.

 Consult With FSSD

  •   You can ask FSSD fire safety consultants for free advice on fire safety matters, including the
      licences and permits required.

  •   FSSD issues licences for storage, transport and import of petroleum and flammable materials,
      permits for outdoor and indoor events, such as trade fairs and exhibitions, and clearances for
      public entertainment outlets.

  •   If you intend to carry out renovations, fire safety or building works, you can also ask these
      consultants about the procedures in acquiring plan approval and fire safety certificates.

 Engage A Qualified Person

  •   You will need to engage a Qualified Person, either an engineer registered with the
      Professional Engineers Board (PEB) or an architect registered with the Board of Architects
      (BOA), to help you comply with fire safety requirements.

  •   The Qualified Person can help you draw up plans of fire safety works and liaise with FSSD on
      all fire safety matters.
